MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope you all had a good one, and an even better year. I spent mine with my family and running after a small child, got happy on champers and was given a stack of presents [including a new car, thanks to dear ol' Dad].

So what have I been up to, you wonder? I'd be here until next year if I told you everything, but I'll list the major events.

* Moved twice {interstate and intrastate}
* Met a nice boy {whom I moved in with}
* Was attacked by an ink gun
* Spent too much money on clothes
* Avoided my family
* Went back to school
* "Danced the night away!" like Jon Fintagio.

And, it's freakin' hot at the moment.

And green is so hot right now.

It's been a very long time, no?

An explanation, of sorts. I basically abandoned the internet, this journal and all it encompasses and all my email addresses - from lack of interest, because I was avoiding people, because I was no longer the person I was painting in each entry. I I'd lost my best friend, I thought people were using the information here to hurt me, I thought I was dying, I thought the whole world was against me and woe, woe, wow.

Who was I? I don't know. Who did I become? Who I was always going to be, I guess.

It's frightfully melodramatic, but it needn't be. I had a shitful first part of the year. But, hey, here I am. Back and ready to pick up where I left off [although there are new musical loves, new fandoms and a brand new handbag...or two].

To those who think they can't talk to me, Cara especially, you can. It's time to move on and heal the wounds that were so selfishly afflicted upon myself and relationships. It's time to grow and acknowledge our own wants, our own dreams and to be excited for each other and the coming new year. It's no longer about them but us.

Because, hell, isn't that what the season is all about?

It's good to be back. It's even better to be alive. And I miss BFR, yo!

ETA: Dude! I forgot all about icons and stuff. The world is a better place now you can have 100 userpics! <lj:music>Harry Connick Jnr. | Nobody Like You To Me</lj:music>

"They said no guests, so I thought of you..."

From aiturnizzle.

1. Of all the bands/artists in your cd/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by?
At the moment, it'd be Die Ärzte. There is, including Farin's solo albums and singles, about 35 CDs of theirs sitting on my desk.Technically, they're not all mine, but they're living at my house, thus I own them. Followed by Texas with a meager six CDs and Better Than Ezra with five.

2. What was the last song you listened to (voluntarily)?
'Booker' by Harry Connick Jnr. I'm on a Harry kick at the moment.

3. What's on your record player right now?
In my discman is Endlich Urlaub! or Star Turtle by Harry Connick Jnr., in my computer drive is She by Harry again, and my big CD player has nothing in it because it is currently unacceptable.

4. What song would you say sums you up?
Um...'Ich Gehöre Nicht Dazu' by Farin Urlaub? Heh. Or 'Halo' by Texas.

5. What's your favorite local band?
I love Doctor Octopus. And I still have a soft spot for Le Taxiride, The Superjesus, The 'Gurge, Cordrazine, Ginger, Sneak. Shannon Noll!

6. What was the last show you attended?
Gosh...it'd have to be Junior Senior, I think.

7. What was the greatest show you've ever been to?
I quite enjoyed 5ive, thank you. And Harry Connick Jnr.! <3

8. What's the shittiest band you've ever seen in concert?
BODYJAR.

9. What band do you love musically but hate the members of?
Die Ärzte?

10. What is the most musically involved you have ever been?
I've played a lot of instruments at school. Cello, bass guitar, clarinet, singing.

11. What show are you looking forward to?
I can't wait for Rammstein, FU Racing Team and eventually The Brot.

12. What is your favorite band shirt?
I love my Reel Big Fish one with me on it, the two I got from Germany recently and any Frauenärztin ones.

13. What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?
Does Farin count as a musician?

14. What musician would you like to hump for a day?
Does Farin count as a musician?

15. Name top 3 albums.
Demo Tape Fettes Brot
Help Yourself Julian Lennon
Life It's Self Is Sweet, Sweet, Sweet! King Kong

(I may have made one of those up.)

16. Did you know that filling out this survey makes you a music geek?
"Sitting by my mama's in slippers and pyjamas, where, there's always something good to eat..."

17. What was the greatest decade for music?
I love the 1960's, but I did think the 1980's bought out some of the better bands, ones that have stuck around for the next couple of decades.

18. How many music-related videos/dvds do you own?
Three dä ones (four including Richy), Amnesie - Fettes Brot's greatest hits DVD, two Rammstein ones, couple of Monkees ones.

19. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
At the moment, Good Bye Lenin! by Yann Tiersen. Compliation soundtrack: I have a soft spot for the Jerry Maguire OST, to be honest.

20. What's the crappiest CD/record/etc you've ever bought?
Adam Cohen's self titled and Nina Gordon's Tonight and the Rest of My Life. I'd wanted both so much, then both sucked.

21. Do you prefer vinyl or CDs?
MP3s.

22. All totaled, how much do you spend on music a month?
Too much. Not as much as before the electronic music revolution, but still a lot.

brynderoy and I attended msmary_contrary's 'Hookers and Pimps' birthday party the other night.

Pimp!Bryn. <lj:music>Niko von Glasgow chatting away</lj:music>

I should apologise for the lack of commenting of late, but I haven't had much time online the past couple of days. Well, this week anyway.

Edelweißpiraten (Edelweiss Pirates, otherwise known as Bela's First Serious Film That Doesn't Involve Vampires) randomness:

Press conference at Montreal Film Festival with director Niko von Glasgow and survivor Jean Julich
Fairly interesting, if you can get past the bitchy French-Canadian host. I should thank Martin Block, the PR guy for the film, who's kept me in the loop since I emailed him last year. A very nice man who is trying to get an Australian release if only for me. *thumbs up*

And Ashleigh, I love you. :D :D :D

"...ten million years..."

A couple of changes, if you're interested, in my flight plans to Germany:

I'm now flying Malaysia Airlines, so I hope I don't die. It's ended up costing a helluva lot less than the Qantas ones, mainly because Qantas under Australian carrier standards charge fuel tax per passenger, whereas most international ones don't. So it's basically the same flight, different carrier; but like I'm not paying any flight taxes at all. Nice.

Depart Brisbane International Airport
Monday, October 4th 2004 @ 11:50pm

Arrive Kuala Lumpur Airport
Tuesday, October 5th 2004 @ 06:05am

(I get a hotel room for eight to twelve hours, to nap and shower etc. before I guess I'm pushed out into the airport to wait. They better have internet access *fist shake*)

Depart Kuala Lumpur Airport
Tuesday, October 5th 2004 @ 11:50pm

Arrive Frankfurt Airport
Wednesday, October 6th 2004 @ 06:30am

Yes, I am leaving at ten minutes to midnight. That can be the title of my travel memoirs.

YOU CAN SHOP ON MALAYSIAN AIRLINES?! How odd. Do they walk up and down hawking the products? I wonder if that's a bit intrusive, but we are living in a consumer society...ooh I can get Mum Chanel No. 5 for 10 to 15% less than the high street prices in Malaysia!

"Your personal TV also becomes a video game console if you need just that extra excitement on board. Choose from any of the many popular video games to spice up your flight." O_O

Okay, I'm going to be honest. I'm worried about travelling with Malaysia Airlines. The STA Travel guy told me the reason you don't often see them in the computer is because they sell out so quickly with business men and what-not, and I was lucky to get such a good fare, but Qantas has never had a crash and...I assume MalAir have. (Yes, I'm a paranoid flyer. Even being able to shop on board won't stop that.)

I have only ever flown with Qantas and Ansett, so I haven't had much experience with wacky overseas carriers, bar horrible acts of terrorism and Final Ascent, that telemovie Liz and I watched the other day. So if any of you have flown with them, please tell me how good they are and not how they're going to crash in the middle of the ocean with me singing 'Ironic' by Alanis.

FIRST CLASS
Seat Features
Sit in luxury when you fly First Class on Malaysia Airlines. Our wide and comfortable seats offer a selection of adjustments tailored to your comfort. Feel free to recline if you need to take a short snooze or stretch your legs out into the cavernous leg space in front of you.

Your seat also features the controls to your in-flight entertainment system. Your remote unit on your armrest will allow you to choose your movies, music or video games. Your controller also doubles as an air-to-ground phone allowing you to make calls anywhere in the world using your credit card. You can also call other passengers seated on the same aircraft if you know their seat number. In-flight laptop adaptors are available for use for First and Golden Club Class passengers on our B747-400 and B777-200. Meanwhile, sit back and enjoy your flight.

Cavernous space. Let's compare that with what Plebby Amanda will be getting for twenty-four hours.

ECONOMY CLASS
Seat Features
Malaysia Airlines offers a comfortable seating arrangement tailored to your travel needs. On most long haul flights, our seats feature foot rests and lumbar support.

Ooh. Foot rests. Swanky.

So I'm almost there with the passport-identification stuff. Got my license, birth certificate, Cara's mum's guarantoring my passport application tomorrow, get that done by Friday, put my UK VISA in on Saturday and voila, we'll be cooking with gas. Just five weeks of work, work, work to go. But it shall all be worth it!

Today I got a pair of $220 jeans for fifty bucks and Australia socks. I'm so patriotic.

"...herzeleid..."

Having just completed the first leg of the national Overdrive tour, he has performed to more than 70,000 fans. His cover of Moving Pictures' 1982 hit What About Me sold 100,000 copies in its first week of release.

Noll grew up on his family's 1800-hectare property at Condobolin. Running sheep, cattle, oats and barley, the Noll property has been in his family for 92 years. Shannon, along with his two brothers, grew up with an expectation that he would continue in the family tradition.

Tragedy struck the Noll family two years ago, when their father died suddenly in a farming accident.

-- AAP
The Australian

"I come a gutsa off me bike" WHAT?! Is that even Aussie Bogan Slang English? Oh Shannon, couldn't you have injured yourself rescuing baby animals or playing polo or something classy?

And how they won't say what happened? It's not his leg he's hurt; it's screaming groin-injury-by-having-the-slashy-moment-in-the-bush.

You know this is going to spark a sequel to everyone's favourite fic, Burn.

Oh, The Miles Between Us!

Farin didn't like to admit he scoured news.com.au. Hell, he didn't even like to admit he owned Shannon's CD.

Usually, the Australian papers were empty. Void of information that may suggest to Farin his one-time lover had secured his place with Rochelle...or with Guy.

Then.

Today.

Front page of the site - 'FALLEN IDOL: chart-topping Shannon Noll in hospital...'

Farin's heart jumped into his chest. He felt sick. He felt useless.

He had to go to him. He had to get the Australian out of his system - even if it meant nursing him back to health.

Hell, I'm awaiting my handbasket.

"...doctor!"

Messrs. Urlaub, Felsenheimer and Gonzalez present a helpful online-hilfe for their new DVD Die Band, die sie Pferd nannten. From 'Was ist Musik?' to handy hints on how to open the DVD and put it in your player, that sound you hear is them being stabbed for reaching new heights of obnoxiousness.

Quick run-down of the week that was:

>> Worked. Wasn't very interesting (yes, I know I work for a strip joint, but taking money, organising rosters and bringing drinks doesn't get more exciting because you're surrounded by naked girls and horrible skanky drunk men).

>> Wrote. Tried some Rammstein stuff, but I keep wanting to pair up Olli and Farin and hello.

>> Read. Some R+ and swim slash. Find it hilarious that people are only now noticing the Pieter/Ian love. *pushes Michael Phelps over*

>> Wrothe. Or made icons and uploaded them, same thing.

>> Socialised (gasp!). She made me download them both, and now they're, in order, forcing me to write late 80's Bela/Farin and be nauseous at the thought of that fucking song being on my hard drive. However, Sian sent me 'Amerika' by R+ and I danced about like a mental patient.

>> Watched. With Veet's bloody foam stuff that is probably eighteen thousand illegal chemicals in a can. I probably shouldn't have used such potent stuff on my poor, sensitive legs, but I was in a hurry and too lazy to shave. Serves me right.

Why did I tell you this? Because I can.

Huzzah for Pieter and his gold, and tears for Massi who didn't even make the final of the 200m men's IM. What's up with that?

I love the Olympic montages. Of slo-mo jumping in the air and happiness. And epic rock songs like Live's 'I Alone'. But he's off to defend his gold tomorrow night in the IM. *excited*

Meanwhile, I am still convinced Pieter and Ian are <s>having a crazy love affair</s> secret best friends who send text messages at four o'clock in the morning AEST giggling about Grant Hackett's lack of hair.

I love how much they seem to genuinely like and care for each other - and how Pieter seems to bring out the twenty-one year old boy in Dorky Staid Ian Thorpe, King of the Pearls. I remember when I worked at the Goodwill Games in 2001 they spent the whole of the swimming calendar dancing around the pool deck, punching each other and just being annoying boys, while Grant ponced around being a ponce. They hijacked the walkie-talkies with Gary Hall Jnr. (who tried to make all us 'Red Coats' do the chicken dance in the VIP box) and caused chaos throughout VIP Hospitality, where I was working, running around Chandler Aquatic Centre trying to get us to let them into the lounge and have a free dinner. Good times. Good, crazy, obnoxious Ian and Pieter times.

Silly, silly, best friendy <s>madly in love</s> boys.

(And everyone on the Aussie team loves Massi because, well, he's virtually on the bloody team.)

I had a god-awful day yesterday, but after a sleep I feel okay. dienacht is calling tonight which is lovely and she got Rammstein tickets for us in December (!), posqito is coming up for a visit on Friday and I got some very good news an hour or so ago, so I'm being happy and dance-y and hopeful. It was probably the sickest I've been since I was a little, little girl - I had to skip drama on Saturday because I could barely stand and hurled spectacuarly on QRail for the second time this year, slept from the afternoon til 5pm Sunday, managed to wander out to get my haircut on Monday but quickly had to stumble home before I passed out and ended up sleeping on the couch. Even yesterday when I felt better, I came home from the doctors absolutely wrecked. And today I'm still pretty down.

It's apparently the worst strain of 'flu in years - and of course, I get it when I'm on a break from work. It's also caused my eczema to flare up again, and I am literally red and spotty from top to toe. Excellent. Add to that the doctor gave me cortisone cream, which works very well on my skin claims missmartinsmum, but of course, gives you cancer if you use it forever and slather it on. Thus I am heeding the "apply sparingly" advice on the packets.

Ouh, I'm in the wars alright.

But nothing can stop me, not even lack of hours at work, from floating around excited about what's happening in forty-nine days. Not even you, itchy skin and snotty nose!

An SMS conversation:

Mum
Have u got my copy of The Stand?double tape

Me
Yup

Mum
I want to watch it-NOW

Me
Too bad so sad

Mum
*blink*

Me
Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Mum
I want it

Me
You can come and get it

Mum
AAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Me
O_o

That conversation cost $2.50.

We just had policemen park across the street and stand around on our front lawn. Cue lizbee and I to freak out - cut a very long story short, the Crazy Cat Lady called the police on the talkative yet hideously un-threatening old man next door because he apparently went for her with a rake. Then two more policemen turned up. O_o

Ahh, Indro. So full of excitement. Except for the not part.

Off I go to revamp Le Domain.

"...and I don't care as long as you sing..."

I'm in the process of upgrading my computer because a virus has, finally, decided to attack my poor baby iConnect. I've had a very good run with Ye Olde Windows ME but it's time to reformat my hard drive and buy it some new, Windows XP-brand clothes so it can finally keep up with the cool kids.

I would have done it before, but XP doesn't recognise my modem once installed and the drivers are online...which you need a modem for. I could have always sent forty dollars to Packard Bell, but come on, seriously. So I'm in the middle of downloading and yelling at my virus-infested computer which is taking 287378437 times longer to do anything it normally does and try and back up all my files so I don't lose them like the Great Computer Breakage of 2000.

I'm starting to get violently angry at the pop-ups and speed of Lovely, Helpful Computer. Take a deep breath...that said, I've had a very, very good run with this computer. She's about four years old, has no virus protection to really speak of and has handled more than it's share of dodgy shareware and new spangly additions like the DVD-Rom drive. So I'd recommend Packard Bell computers to anyone who asked, especially since they updated their look and are tres trendy now. It could also be I'm one of the four people who has Windows ME, thus every major virus or annoying computer trick kind of ignores it in their attacks on Microsoft. Either either.

*wonders how she's going to transport two gigs of BFR madness*

Then again, I could just throw this one in the bin and buy a new, shiny PB laptop I saw. It only weighs 2.5kgs so I can take it to Europe, has a DVD-RW drive, 40GB of space, 15" monitor, wireless modem, is white and shiny...and stay in Australia for the rest of my natural born life.

However, as I patiently download, I am snacking on a Penguin. No, really. autiotalo and dienacht sent me wonderful parcels in the mail this week and I am a very spoilt girl indeed. Sian's was filled to the brim with zany English food (most of which was eaten by others, mind), handsome men on tapes and Rammstein's latest DVD which I am yet to watch. Cara's had an Aerzte and a Beatsteaks shirt and the 'Nichts in der Welt' single - thank you to both of you, I'm very, very spoilt and very, very full!

The tapes Sian sent me had stacks of Farin Urlaub Racing Team footage - I almost had a minor fit seeing 'OK' live. Dear Lord. And I was amazed and frightened by "Deutschland's biggest Aerzte fan" that was covered in tattoos of Bela's face - does that mean if I cover myself in pictures of Shannon Noll, BFR and Kyan Douglas I get to meet them? And one tape had Jenny Elvers on it, so my apologies, Sian dearest, if there's a splice line in the tape when you get it back. *innocent smile*

I'm having fun with stuffing her parcel full of typical Australian goodies...Cara doesn't get any because, well, she's Australian. She gets a text message and gets to hear my voice every night, that is gift enough. :D

Australian Idol began again tonight. Andrew G is still handsome and almost got hit by a tram and Shannon Noll is not handsome but is handsome even though he's not handsome despite being handsome in a totally non-handsome handsome way.

Ahem.

Nice to see Dicko, Marcia and Crazy Mark are taking no shit from the scores of "fake" contestants - I do not blame them at all for getting aggro in the least. If I had to sit through at least a thousand auditions each city of people taking the piss, I could not be held responsible for my actions. It looks like it will be quite good this year, judging by the lack of people they were letting through. Brisbane's up tomorrow night - if only I could have gone and sung 'Meine Freunde'...

You have to wonder when Die Toten Hosen would have had time to sing a cover of 'Schrei Nach Liebe' with Nena, but still, I download it anyway. Much like that time I found a file called 'Rammstein - Barbie Girl' and 'Rammstein - Leichenhalle'. Anyway. It's not them, as you can imagine, but Band ohne Namen - remember them? They had a minor hit with a song called 'Boys' a couple of years back that was shrouded with controversy here because it had boys bits in the filmclip. Needless to say, I downloaded that and danced about for a bit.

And why did Nena release a 2004 version of '99 Luftballons'? She's held up rather well. Even her earlobes seem uneffected by those monsterous crystal heart earrings she sported in Richy Guitar, bless.

baggers has been staying with us the past couple of days, too. So she was subjected to 'Crazy Germans' all day and all night and has officially fallen for Mr. Rod. She even has icons now - I still think she's humouring me, but then again, I'm used to only pink-haired girls laughing at their play-fights and bad American accents and occasional roommates, too.

And speaking of Ashleighs, Ashalea was voted out of Big Brother on Sunday. Sad, sad times.

...Penguins taste like Tim Tams but not.

"...boys, what I'm talking about..."
